English-speaking countries

     Great Britain, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are English speaking countries. They are situated in different parts of the world and differ in many ways. The nature of these countries, their weather and climate and way of life of their people differ. Each coutry has it's own history customs, traditions, its own national holidays. But they all have a common language. English, the language of the people who left England to make their names in new countries. The United Kindom of Great Britain and North Ireland consist of 4 parts: England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland. The British Isles are group of islands lying off the noth-west coast of the continent of Europe. There are no high mountains, no very long river, no great forest in U.K. The population of the U.K. is almost fifty-six million. Great Britain is a capitalists country. The USA is situated in the central part of the North American continent. The population of the USA is more then 236 million people. The USA is a highly develoed industrial country. In the USA there are two main political parties, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Canada has area of nearly 10 million square kilometres. It's westen coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast by the Atlantic Ocean. The population of Canada is over 26 million people. Canada is a capitalist federal state and a member of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth of Australia territories are the continent of Australia, the island of Tasmania and number of smaller islands. Australia has an area of nearly eight million square kilometres. The population of Australia is over sixteen million people. The Commonwealth of Australia is a capitalist self- governing federal state. New Zealand is situated south-east of Australia. The country consists of the large islands called North Island, South Island and Stewart Island and also many small islands. The population of New Zealand is over three million people. New Zealand is a capitalist self-governing state and a meember of the Commonwealth.

British English Vs American English

Given the number of places around the world that English is spoken, differences are bound to emerge. Despite how much the USA and UK have in common, there are enough differences between their two versions of the English language that someone may not always understand exactly what someone from the other country is saying. Not only are there 160 distinct dialects of the English language, but there's also different spelling and even words, used to describe one or other thing. Fortunately, the US State Department has created a series of these useful graphics to help clear things up between the British English Vs. American English usage.

Did you know, that the difference between spelling words like American color and British colour, or humor and humour, comes from the Brits adopting, their now called British words, from Old French language? When it came to America later, the spelling was simplified. And so is with many other American English and British English differences, as the adaptation of grammar took its part.

Мабуть, скоромовки, або ламачі язика, як їх ще називають, присутні у будь-якій мові. Це короткі сентенції, часто абсурдні за змістом, однак складені таким чином, що поєднують у собі непрості для вимови звуки. Їх задають вчити дітям і навіть дорослим, які мають проблеми з дикцією та не можуть вимовити певні звуки.

Попри кумедність, скоромовки не варто сприймати як розвагу. Навряд вам вдасться вимовити котрусь із них правильно з першого разу. Вони не покращать вашу вимову автоматично, якщо ви не повторюватимете їх багато разів. Фахівці радять не намагатися одразу вимовити скоромовку швидко — краще зосередьтеся на коректній вимові кожного звуку, звертайте увагу на те, у якому положенні знаходяться ваші губи та язик  і лише потім поступово збільшуйте швидкість. Спробуйте вправлятися перед дзеркалом.

Навіть якщо вам здається, що проблем із вимовою англійських звуків у вас нема, скоромовки можна використовувати як своєрідну гімнастику перед публічними виступами. Зверніть особливу увагу на такі з них і не забувайте виписувати нову лексику — вона обов’язково стане в пригоді.

У цій скоромовці постійно повторюються приголосні звуки d, l, s та b. Також вона буде корисною для тренування вимови шиплячих, з якими у студентів частенько виникають проблеми: short, sharp shock, cheap and chippy chopper.

А ця скоромовка допоможе виправити вимову звуку w, а також ch. Крім того, ви зрозумієте, як відрізняється вимова слів could, wood та would.

Ця скоромовка вважається однією з найскладніших для вимови, навіть для тих, хто знає англійську з дитинства. Однак вона є дуже корисною для того, щоб навчитися правильно вимовляти звукосполучення приголосних fl та fr, звук z, а ще зрозуміти різницю у вимові буквосполучення th у словах “these,” “three,” “that’s” та “through.”

Noisy Noise

Any noise annoys an oyster, but a noisy noise annoys an oyster most.

А в цій скоромовці постійно повторюються схожі між собою звуки oy та oi, і різницю між ними помітно у словах noise, annoys, oyster.
